There is no evidence yet as to when such superstitions began to take root in Nepali society. However, such superstitions are believed to have developed secretly with the development of human civilization and our culture.

It is true that the great saints and scholars of that time may have made some such rules in the process of making social values and rules of social behaviour. But later, due to the misuse of the same rules, they grew into superstitions and now we laugh when we hear these superstitions.

However, considering some of the rules of superstition, the rules seem to be scientifically correct at that time. Let's take an example of a superstition.

A woman who is menstruating should not touch the place of worship, temple, kitchen and a holy casted man.

This rule makes you both surprised and sad to hear. If we think in terms of today's scientific age, menstruation is a normal menstrual process and a woman who is menstruating should be looked at like any other normal time.

But once we leave the present scientific age and think in the way of that age, when this law was developed. At that time, there were no sanitation materials and sanitary pads as there are now, due to which the dead cells coming out of the women body were afraid of spreading infections and diseases. Worship rooms and temples are meant to provide peace of mind. These place should be clean and infection free for peace of mind. Probably it may be factor that menstruating woman is restricted in those place to make those place safe from infection.

The same sanitation case should be the reason for the ban on entry into the kitchen. Also, since women are suffering from both physical and mental pain at that time so the kitchen work were also banned for their comfort.

Now let's talk about the fact that a holy-casted man should not be touched. It is usually holy-casted a boy after the end of his childhood and the onset of adolescence. With the onset of adolescence, sexual desire in men and women increases. If a man and a menstruating woman who lived together, sexual desire and sexual activity can take place, which can lead to health problems later on. And in a patriarchal society, wonem may compel to engage in sexual activity, even if it is difficult for her. Moreover, let's not talk about those men who take advantage of the weak condition of women in such painful condition. Therefore, the rule that men should not touch women and women should not touch men must have remained for this reason.

Also, at that time, there was no law and proper punishment system like now, so the name of God was used to make people follow such rules because people at that time were most afraid of God, sin-religion and invisible power.

But now we have proper sanitation, medical treatment, proper laws and punishment system. Therefore, forgetting the previous conditions and rules, menstruation should be thought in the way of the present scientific age and all those forbidden places should be opened.

This is just an example of the beginning of a superstition in our society. The reason for the beginning of many such superstitions is also appropriate. But some of the superstitions in our society have no basis, no reason. The society has been accepting the same. We have been following the superstitions without understanding the reason behind them. So by applying our knowledge, we should avoid those superstitions.
